We're wrapping up the final week of summer camp at Crow's Nest. Soon it will be time to dry out the creek shoes and put them away. We've been fortunate with the weather and hosted a great bunch of kids. This week has been a repeat of the 7th/8th grade camp (we keep this group smaller because of the field trips and kayaking). We've traveled to other Natural Lands Trust preserves and easements, collected data but mostly had fun.
Many thanks to our camp staff: Eloise, Pete and Molly Smyrl; Sean Quinn; and Dan Herr. To our volunteers who filled in when needed: Patience Kaltenbach, Denise Barringer, and Ashley Walters. To our Building Stewardship staff who helped us build our natural homes: Bob Johnson, Steve Holmburg, Scott and Luke DeBerardinis. To Mike McGeehin who guided us through two days of GPS data collection at Birdsboro Waters and put it all into Google Earth (TM). To farmer Frank for loaning us his haywagon (and hay!) for camp. To preserve managers Tim Burris and Erich Estes for sharing their preserves and time with the kids. To everyone who loaned us a card table for the habitats in the barn. And to Kendra Luta for filling in for me on land stewardship for the duration of camp.
And many thanks to our funding sources: Crow's Nest donors, the DeMarco Foundation, Monika Panger, and also to all of the parents who support our programs and send their kids.
