Even as the temperature drops the sunny and increasingly long days have me thinking about spring. Winter has just begun but the seed catalogs are here.
The course catalog from Longwood Gardens has also arrived. In addition to the usual offerings in garden design, plant identification, flower arranging, field trips, cooking and botanical illustration, they are planning a series of lectures on tree houses. I have no plans to build one but it's got me thinking...
In the write-up they note that tree houses historically were places that excluded; it was just for the kids who built it as a clubhouse. Increasingly there is a movement toward publicly accessible tree houses in parks: places that build community as they change our perception of space. For more information, longwoodlearning.org.
