We usually keep a pile of wood chips on hand for mulching sections of trails, placing at the base of newly-planted trees, or put down to protect soil from compaction during activities. We also make chips available to neighbors who want them for their yards. This summer Meredith moved many trailer loads to mulch a new instructional area in the woods at Crow's Nest complete with log-section stools.
Yesterday I delivered the last of our chips to the volunteers at Hopewell Furnace to line the paths of the herb garden at the Ironmaster's mansion.
While we don't have an immediate need for more wood chips I like to keep some on hand. If you are an arborist working in our neighborhood and are looking for a place to dump chips please contact us. They must be "clean" chips: no diseased trees, pest insects, or weed seed from invasive species of tree.
