This past weekend, volunteers from the Chester County Beekeepers Association (www.chescobees.org) gave a presentation about the honeybee and its role in the environment. These amazing little creatures are capable of some extraordinary feats: Did you know that a honeybee flies between 2 and 3 miles on each of its collecting trips from the hive? Or did you know that the queen bee can lay nearly 1,500 eggs in one day? Did you know that there are between 40,000 and 60,000 bees in a bee hive? (Thanks to Emme Bryer for the Fun Bee Facts!)
At the end of the event, everyone was given an opportunity to look inside an active bee hive and even taste some fresh honey. Despite our poking an prodding in the beehive, no one was stung. In all, it was a terrific day. Many thanks to our speakers and adventurous event goers!
